Wardrobe Extender

Caitlin loves dresses. She still wants to wear them even when she outgrows them. We have found a good compromise. She can still wear them if she wears bike shorts underneath. My size 7/8 little girl has been know to squeeze into a size 5T. Extending the wardrobe makes both Caitlin and me happy.

Be sure to head over to see what all the cool kids are wearing at Feet Off the Table. Check out more wordless at 5 Minutes for Mom, Momspective, A Beautiful Mess and Wordless Wednesday for more wordless photos.

Favorite August Photo

This is one of my favorite photos from August. I love it despite Caitlin's mostly washed off face paint. Be sure to head to the paper mama for lots of great photos.

A Dark and Stormie Night

We were suppose to go to Newport, Rhode Island to celebrate our 10th anniversary but Hurricane Irene had other plans. We were stuck home. I decided to prepare for the hurricane by renting a movie, buying lots of snacks and rum.

We live far enough inland and far enough away from water that we really didn't have to worry about flooding from Irene. We luckily only lost a few tree branches.

Anyway back to the date, we put the kids to bed and started pouring dark and stormies (dark rum and ginger beer.) It seems appropriate as Irene approached.
We could use some comic relief so we watched Russel Brand's Arthur. Arthur is a kid like billionaire that has never had to work and is constantly getting into trouble. His mother controls the fortune and tells Arthur he must marry the sensible Susan Johnson (played by Jennifer Gardner.) The company's investors are worried about Arthur eventually taking over the company since he is always an embarrassing alcoholic mess. At first Arthur refuses but the thought of losing all the money is too much. Then he fells in love with NYC tour guide, Naomi Quinn. Comedy ensues as Arthur decides his fate: a loveless marriage and billions or a chance at love with no money. I love Russel Brand. I thought this was an excellent remake.
After having several dark and stormies, some people may or may not have gone skinny dipping in the frigid pool. If the skinny dipping did occur, it did not last long. Some times people get silly. And that is fun too.

Turkey Vulture Size

We went to our little state zoo. Part of the fun is measuring to see how big your wingspan is. I have the same wingspan as a turkey vulture.

Fishy Fun

The kids and I got to go to an aquarium last week. I love to see them learn and explore. I also love to see my budding photographer take photos of all the cool creatures we saw.

Dating Dave Again

We were very lucky this weekend. The in laws offered to take the kids for a sleep over. They didn't need to ask twice. We took full advantage of the kid free time. We went to lunch. No one had to cut up anyone else food. Such a treat. We talked about future vacation plans. I definitely have the Disney bug and can't wait to go back.

We then went to a friend's picnic and pool party. It was so nice to not have to watch the kids and thus be in the pool for 5 hours. We were able to relax and actually finish conversations too. As the kids at the party started to play the injury defying game of racing down the steep driveway in various vehicles, I was very glad Davey was not there. He would be the one to do the face plant on the driveway and lose a tooth.

We decided to leave the picnic after 4 hours to see a movie. We both really wanted to see The Change-Up. We had to take advantage since it is so rare that we get to see an adult movie in the theater. It was hilarious. There was some gross out humor and on the dirty side at times. It is not for the modest. It also had Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds so even if it sucked I got to look at Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds for an hour and 40 minutes. They are both easy on the eyes.
Dave asked if I wanted to go out for a drink after the movie. It was tempting but I showed my old age and decided sitting on the couch in the silence was the way to go.

It was a wonderful weekend. Glorious. It is nice to remember how much fun we have by ourselves. Most of our date nights won't be like this or even out of the house. But it just reminded me how important connecting on a regular basis is. Dave and I finished a 52 date project but have been slacking since. I think it is time to start it up again. More Inappropriate Fashions for Girls

I wish the fashion industry would just let little girls look like little girls. Remember Abercombie's push up bikini for 7 year olds? Now a French lingerie shop is marketing lingerie for children 7-12. Jours Apres Lunes has the little girls dressed in their lingerie made up in beehive hairdo's with pearls around their neck. The lingerie itself isn't the worst part, it is how they are sexualizing the poor young models in their ads. Just think of all the creeps who now have these photos:
Am I the only one who is totally creeped out by this trend in girls fashions?

Happy Hour

Sonic has happy hours everyday from 2-4 pm. The drinks are half off. I love the diet cherry limeade. It makes me happy. I may to slightly addicted to it. I'd go everyday if I could. I love how happy hour has changed from beers with the girls to drinks at Sonic with the kids. That makes me happy too. Not that I don't still enjoy drinks with the girls.

Summer Fun Show Off

We have had a busy summer. We had our big vacation to Disney in May, so we have just done day trips or even hung out at home. The simple things can make us very happy. We have gone to the beach multiple times, picked peaches and blueberries, done splat art, jumped off high places, walked tight ropes, saw a huge sand castle, ran at the track, learned to swim underwater, rode the carousel, cuddled with Maximus, won free rides at the carousel, and ate lots of treats. And summer isn't over yet.

Yesterday Made Me Happy (Splat Art Project)

We had a good day yesterday. We had no plans so I decided to do a messy painting craft with the kids. I dressed them in the swimsuits to cut down on the mess. I put finger paints on paper plates.
Then we used these crazy looking hairy plastic balls to cover with paint. You can find those in the toy department or the dollar store like I did.
Then I taped paper to a big cardboard box I had. Butcher paper would work better but I didn't have any. When you throw the balls at the paper, they leave pretty patterns like these.
The dog always manages to get covered in paint.
The windups.
The final project.
To clean up and cool off, everyone went on the Slip n' Slide, including Maximus.

Yesterday made me happy. It was a low key day but we all had fun. Go see Leigh vs. Laundry to see more photos that will make you happy. This is 20 out of 52 for me.

Photo Bombing

Photo bombing is the art of intentionally ruining someone else's photos by posing in them. My daughter has taken up this art form.
Caitlin kept running through my shot with Davey.
Then when I decided to take her photo this is the pose she gave me. I love that punky kid.
